Visit to Tuahiwi Marae

Today I spent a really enjoyable, interesting and informative visit to the Tuahiwi Marae with all the staff from school. Each person had to give a mihi which is an introduction stating where you are from, the name of your mountain and your river, what iwi or tribe you belong to and also what you do for a job. So in English mine stated my name, that I come from Taumarunui where my mountain is Hikurangi and my river is the Wanganui, my tribe is Pakeha and I am a Librarian. It was quite scary saying all that in Maori but I felt quite proud of myself for doing it as did most of the Pakeha staff. We then had to sing a waiata in Maori which I have to say sounded fantastic. Later in the day we were taught another waiata which we sang in three parts and our hosts were very impressed with our effort. Lunch was great and all in all a very good day.

I love this quote.
“The organised soul has one book beside the bed.
The glutton sleeps with a New York skyline lurching an inch from the bed.”
I am definitely a glutton 🙂

In the beginning ….

Okay, here we go. Just made a blog for work so thought I would make one for myself. So far so good. Now I just have to make time to actually put something on here! Maybe I will start with a picture of my new hobby – collecting small plates and saucers in blue and white pattern. Will try and upload photo tomorrow.
